In the field of non-destructive testing (NDT) using videoscopes, it is very common to encounter inspection targets composed of a large number of regularly arranged components that must be examined one by one. Such applications typically generate hundreds of inspection images. With an effective image management mechanism, a great deal of time can be saved on locating and matching photos during result review, traceability checks, and report preparation.
Sequential Image File Indexing for Large-Number Bore NDT Videoscope Inspections
One of the most typical cases is the inspection of tube shell heat exchangers. Inspection teams usually assign numbers to each tube hole or follow a fixed sequence to inspect each position. In this context, if the videoscope system allows the user to define or select the file name index before saving each image, it becomes a very practical function. By assigning a file name index that increments according to the inspection sequence, engineers can establish a clear one-to-one relationship between the tube ID and the corresponding image file. This approach not only helps quickly locate the image of a specific tube during later review, but also greatly improves work efficiency when resuming an interrupted inspection task or re-inspecting a particular hole, reducing time spent on repeated confirmation and comparison.
Image Indexing and Segmented Folder Management in Turbine Blade Videoscope Inspection
Another similar application that benefits from the same capability is the inspection of turbine blades in aircraft engines (HPT/LPT). In this type of inspection, the engineer first inserts the videoscope probe into the engine access port and uses guide tubes or fixtures to confirm a fixed viewing position. Once the viewing angle and position are adjusted, the inspector usually rotates the turbine shaft manually and slowly, checking each turbine blade in sequence for damage, wear, corrosion, or foreign object attachment.
Within this workflow, if the system supports customizable file name indexing and the user predefines a structured folder organization (for example by engine serial number, inspection section, or inspection date), each captured image can be mapped to a meaningful, sequential file name corresponding to the order of blade inspection. With a clear association such as “inspection section / blade index,” inspectors can not only mark suspect blades already during on-site inspection, but also later, during report preparation, quickly and accurately retrieve the corresponding images from a large photo set, significantly reducing the time needed for file searching and comparison.
The new released X2000 and X750 firmware now provide a simple method for user to select the start number of file naming or select specific number for the picture.

- Press trigger to take picture
- The screen freeze, file name selection window showed on top
- Use the arrow icons to select the start number you want
- Press the disc icon to save picture
- The file name of next picture will follow the number in sequence. Or select file name again as need
- Firmware version information:
