Plant HVAC Air Conditioning System Field Inspection

Environment Resistance and High-Brightness Field Test of the Mitcorp X750 Dual-Lens Videoscope

 

  1. Introduction: Maintenance Challenges of Plant HVAC Systems

In large industrial plants or high-tech manufacturing cleanrooms, central air conditioning and HVAC systems are critical to maintaining constant temperature, humidity, and air cleanliness. However, during long-term operation, moisture and chemical gas condensates often accumulate inside the ductwork, with certain process areas exposing pipes to acidic and alkaline substances. These complex environments easily lead to jammed internal valve mechanisms, severe metal corrosion, and flaking on pipe walls, negatively impacting facility environmental control and safety standards.

Traditional HVAC inspections are restricted by narrow spaces and pipe bends, making disassembly time-consuming and costly. This case study highlights the Mitcorp X750 industrial videoscope system equipped with a 6 mm dual-lens probe. It performed a comprehensive non-destructive testing (NDT) assessment covering internal valve actuation, surface corrosion and scaling, as well as external components of a plant’s HVAC ductwork.

  1. Field Test 1: Rear Main Unit Camera Maximizes Walk-Around Inspection Efficiency

Before inspecting internal ductwork, field engineers must conduct walk-around inspections and tag surrounding equipment conditions. In the past, engineers had to carry both a digital camera and an endoscope unit, which was cumbersome to operate.

The rear panel of the Mitcorp X750 main unit features an integrated secondary camera with independent LED lighting, offering exceptional practical utility when navigating between multiple on-site machines. Technicians can hold a single unit to capture exterior equipment labels, actuator indicator positions, and environmental context, streamlining the workflow into a seamless “one-device solution for external inspection and internal probing.”

  1. Field Test 2: Acid/Alkali Resistance & Flexible 6 mm Dual-Lens Switching

The internal HVAC ductwork inspected in this case is exposed to long-term acid/alkali vapors and moisture, making probe corrosion resistance crucial. The X750 probe is engineered with high-grade protection to effectively resist chemical attack, safeguarding the optical lens and front-end structure while extending device lifespan and measurement reliability.

During duct insertion, the 6 mm dual-lens insertion tube demonstrated smooth maneuverability. The dual-lens (front-view and side-view) configuration eliminates the need for expensive or easily detached side-mirror adapters. With a single button press, engineers can toggle views to effortlessly inspect fine structures on side walls and valve edges.

  1. Field Test 3: High-Brightness Lighting & Boost Mode Overcome Long-Distance Range Limits

HVAC ducts feature large interior spaces and deep cavities where conventional endoscope light sources decay rapidly after a few dozen centimeters, leaving deep sections in pitch black and hindering accurate diagnosis.

During this field test, as the probe penetrated deep into long-distance ducting, engineers activated the X750’s Boost enhanced lighting feature. Once enabled, background brightness and contrast increased instantly. This not only illuminated the full depth of the duct structure but also precisely captured localized anti-corrosion coating flaking (dark spots at the top of Figure 6) and granular rust patterns, delivering crucial actionable data for the maintenance team.
