Endoscopic inspection of Metal bent pipes

Crucial work of the quality assurance for pipe bending

Metal bent pipes are widely used in both industrial and daily applications, serving as structural components or protective designs for internal wiring. Generally, metal pipe bending processes can be categorized into two types: hot bending and cold bending. The main methods include stamping, mold bending, and rolling. Regardless of the method used, pipes may develop various marks, scratches, or cracks during the stretching process. These defects may cause scratches during wiring installation or compromise the lifespan and safety of structural components if the damage is too severe.

However, such defects typically occur on the inner walls of the pipes and cannot be easily detected with the naked eye. Therefore, using a high-quality industrial borescope with excellent imaging and functionality becomes an indispensable tool for quality assurance.

X750 industrial videoscope make it easily

In this case, engineers utilized the Mitcorp X750 high-resolution industrial borescope paired with a 3.9 mm dual-lens probe. This allowed them to inspect the inner surface of the processed pipes with precision, revealing various marks and scratches.

When suspicious fine lines or scratches were identified, switching to the negative black-and-white mode enabled clearer recognition of the textures and contours. This functionality helps engineers evaluate whether the defects pose a risk of physical damage, preventing the need for destructive testing, complex disassembly, or costly repairs later on, thereby significantly reducing overall maintenance effort and expense.
